In 2021 Sweden ranked 2nd in the UN’s Sustainable Development Report and is deemed to be one of the most sustainable-focused nations.
We could think that Stockholm, as the capital would be the greenest city in Sweden.
How wrong could we be, as a vast majority of Swedish towns are known for their vigorous takes on making Sweden sustainable all around.
- Biogas production: The initial aim was to reuse 70% of the city’s food waste into biogas production by 2020. In turn the energy in biogas could be used as a substitute for fuel, used to generate electricity or even be transformed into a fertilizer*
- Urban Traffic: Malmö is famously known for being a “clean transport” town.
The city has 560 km of bike lanes and at least a quarter of its urban traffic involves bicycles.
- Efficient building: Reducing gas and energy emissions can start from home.
That is why the town of Uppsala has implemented a climate neutral approach. New buildings are constructed using greener and reusable materials.
